For centuries, people have come to this area to escape the world - and to make a world of their very own.

The Welsh, in 1865, went looking for their promised land. They headed west to the rolling hills and the Andean mines, settling just south of the Cabaña Cholinga. This is also where the world's most famous fugitives came to hide away. In 1902, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid bought a small holding twenty minutes away from the Cabaña.

All went well for the Wild Bunch, until they decided to raid a trading post and shot the owner, a Welshman, Lloyd apIwan, whose great grandson, Alun Lloyd, is a local fishing guide. You cross a field to visit what once was the gang's home. (These days, our neighbours are less dangerous!)
